Poster Picture
Howdy,
I am trying to figure out what picture people like most for a possible poster shot. I know some people had mentioned that the shot on the beach of the team running down the beach in San Diego was a good poster shot. Some guys on the '79 team said that even though the poster they had was great, they would have rather had a shot that showed the whole team, and I know that that is the case now. I guess just let me know what people like best out of the pictures, so I can push RIT in that direction. Thanks,
Matt "Krackle" Hartman

Well, I'm not sure what sort of quality the original images are and whether they are originally digital or film, but based on the ones I can see on the website (and, if you can zoom in and enlarge some of the others there are at least a half dozen to quickly add to this list) I have a top 3 on which ones I would like on a poster:
The RF picture (of course): CRW_9644.jpg

The final team cheer picture: CRW_1085.jpg

The RF picture speaks for itself.
I like the idea of a hand off picture. Like Alf said in one of the comments, y'all looked like you were taking this very seriously and treating it like a race, and there are quite a few good hand off pictures. Based on the 640x480 size, this was the best one I could find that wasn't too small. I think that it really speaks about the actual collaboration required, unlike a solo picture of a picture of a crowd.
The final one just shows a lot of happy (and wet) folks and would get everybody in. I don't like some of the background though, since a random photographer and the Navy folk don't really need to be in it. This might be good as the basis over a montage of other pictures, though.
Speaking of image sizes, though...are there higher resolution ones available? I've been using pictures from here as my backgrounds, but they don't look as good when blown up to 1280x1024 or 1400x1050.

You have a good sense of what looks good, so I trust your choice. However, the opening leg with 18 runners across the beach is my vote. Everyone is shown in the shot, and it gives an idea of the scope of the run. Plus, it has that "Chariots of Fire" feel (very inspirational) Its a nice, simple composition and lends itself toward text on the top and bottom. Its exemplifies the idea that everyone is running for the team and for himself (herself). It's universal and specific at the same time. Also, its a day shot, which just looks better than a flash-illuminated scene. Plus, it just looks cool.
(also, you won't have to deal with people complaining that they didn't make the poster, or that someone is more important than another person - less hassle for you)
The beach shot with smaller individual shots all around it in a collage.
Pleeeeease don't do the collage idea. We need one idea, one image that says it all. Collage would be cluttered and contrived. Posters need immediate impact.
I don't think RIT is looking at doing a collage, they also want that massive encompassing shot. Also, I'm not any deciding factor on a poster shot, I just want to get some input about what the team thinks, so I can communicate that to the right people. Thanks a lot for the input.
Yeah, I like the idea of having the span of the entire team on the beach as the poster. It incorporates everyone into the poster(except Trish). It also shows the whole coast part of the run and that it was a team effort along with the 18 individual efforts.
